March 12 Sacred valley of the Incas- Sol y Luna hotel
Spend the day exploring the archaeological sites and culture of the Sacred Valley in the
company of National Geographic expert Peter Frost (or a colleague), who has lived and worked
in Peru for decades. He (or a colleague) joins us for a talk at the hotel and continues with us to
Ollantaytambo, where massive stone walls stand sentry over a thriving Inca community. Lunch
is at a working, family-owned hacienda. Here we are also treated to a show of Peruvian Paso
horses, and National Geographic grantee Nilda Callañaupa, founder of El Centro de Textiles
Tradicionales de Cusco, joins us to demonstrate Inca weaving traditions. Dinner tonight is at
the hotel.

Breakfast was offered from a menu. I had a brushetta with goat cheese and vegetables.Paul had yogurt and musli. I ordered the munis tea but they didn't bring it until we were supposed to leave for our lecture. Peter Frost spoke and is selling a book. He sort of echoed and droned on. Good information but difficult to pay attention.
We went to Ollantaytamba and climbed the temple. 36 stories. we say some alpacas wandering around. It was amazing the tight fit of the stones on top. The day is dry and warm but not hot.
Then we went to lunch at a fancy hacienda at the end of a long bumpy dirt road. Peter Frost Gage is another lecture on how he thinks the Inca were able to move big stones and how they cut the tight fit. Another lovely lunch
Then a horse show
Then back to the hotel to pack differently because we are not taking all our things to, machu piccu. They only allow one bag. We have a dancing show at 7 followed by dinner.
followed by a weaving demonstration. I bought a sweater and a shawl made of alpaca wool.
