March 8 Santiago

 
According to the itinerary we were supposed to go to Genovessa Island, we went to Santiago Island. Apparently generosa is isolated because of bird flu and they're not letting any tourists go there for the last 4 months.They offered more snorkeling, a trip to the beach and a 1.8 mi hike in the heat and humidity and we declined all of those activities in favor of resting, doing laundry and getting gear packed. The naturalists made a video of all the sea life we had seen this week and made it available so we got a copy. It's great and they have everything labeled to what it is.
     This is our last day on the boat. We are run down. They are offering more kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking 2 miles. but we are going to settle for the glass bottom boat ride.  This is my friend the coffee machine that makes a whole bunch of different kinds of things.We will do a bit of laundry. They have 2 of the spin dry thing like at the y. They really do a great job drying at your clothes. Then they dry in a couple hours even with the high humidity here.
And that's all our wetsuits and snorkel gear hanging beyond them.

We had our logistics meeting to get all of our luggage tags and figure out how to transfers are going to work tomorrow.

Today our bags have to be out at 5:50 a.m. our carry-on has to be less than 17 lb. And we leave for the airport at 6:50. A.m. reply to Cusco which is at 11,000 ft. Then take a mini bus to tiobamba in the sacred valley for lunch at UNU restaurant followed by a visit to Moray terraces and the Pablo seminario workshop. We are staying at the sol y Luna hotel. We looked it up it is 886/night. I think it is going to be breathtaking too.        Off to that fabulous breakfast buffet. We found out about all the security hubba last night. It was apparently Blink 182 band that came to stay at the hotel.       We took the long bus ride back to the airport. There was a flight to Cusco having final boarding at our gate and we rushed to get there. It was not our flight, we are the next Cusco flight in an hour. Well a bit of light exercise is good for you. March 10 Lima Colonia Lima - Plaza Mayor- Casa Aliaga- Larco Museum

 Explore World Heritage-designated colonial Lima this morning, where we stroll the Plaza Mayor and delight in a private welcome lunch with a special musical presentation at Casa Aliaga, one of the oldest houses in Lima. Then visit the extraordinary Larco Museum dedicated to pre- Columbian art. Return to our hotel with dinner on your own to sample local fare.  Like everything else at this hotel the breakfast was way over the top. We had breakfast on a small patio with just three tables overlooking the ocean. Breakfast is on the 11th floor like the pool The view from our room That's a turtle pond in front of our hotel with a park in the back. There's a bike lane through the road. March 1: Free Day in Guayaquil, Ecuador

We tried to wash a few things in the room last night and this morning they are still very wet. It is so humid here. A wall of plants! I made inquiries at the desk about a guest laundry. They said since we only need to dry them, they'll do it for free. I wandered around the hotel while Paul was sleeping. There's a bunch of young children dressed up in graduation outfits. They're very cute. Since breakfast closes at 10:00, I need to wake Paul up so he can get some breakfast, as it is 9am. The buffet is lovely. Croissants, fresh fruit, and omelettes. We notice outside there is armed security. We met another couple going on our trip in the lobby. They are Ron and Robyn from Wisconsin. They felt this would just be a rest day. With the recent unrest here they were advised to stay and explore the services the hotel has to offer. We found the gym, the pool, and there is a spa.
